Formats & Regulations

Everything that defines a Champions battle — battle formats, modes, the Mega Evolution rule, and the seasonal regulation sets.

Battle formats

Single Battles

Bring 6, pick 3 — one Pokémon on the field at a time. A test of prediction and momentum.

Double Battles

The official VGC format — two Pokémon per side, where positioning, spread moves, and support win games.

Battle modes

Ranked

Climb the ladder with Victory Points across seasonal regulations.

Casual

Practice matchups and teams with no rank on the line.

Private

Battle friends directly in custom rooms.

Champions rules

  • A curated pool of Pokémon, moves, and held items is legal — no Legendaries, Mythicals, Ultra Beasts, or Paradox Pokémon (Pikachu is a rare unevolved exception).
  • Mega Evolution returns as a core mechanic via the Omni Ring — one Mega per battle, and it stays Mega for the rest of the match even after switching out.
  • Move PP is standardized to fixed values (8 / 12 / 16 / 20).
  • Some Pokémon have adjusted learnsets and a handful of brand-new Champions-exclusive Mega Evolutions.

Regulation sets

Ranked seasons rotate through regulation sets that change the legal roster and banlist.
